The National Library of Colombia is a very important place for Aparicio as it has allowed him to travel back in time and observe his country’s roots.
During 2013 the artist explored the rooms, books and web of the library, immersing himself in the immensity of the archive where much of the memory of the nation rests. Aparicio has transformed, with the use of the scanner, the magical place of the library into a new experimentation that confronts the screen-marked hypervisuality of our times.

In this work William searched the archives of the most important newspapers in Colombia, starting from 9 April 1948. This day represents a memorable moment in the history of the country, with all the consequences decade after decade until the end of the twentieth century: one film archives 50 years of history.
The endless strips of memory, built day by day from the printed paper, vanish in the process in the library in front of the large archive. “Pausa Intercrónica” macro-title, which includes the subsequent “Codificado Microfilms” reflects on the concept of database as a symbolic figure of our time; in fact, today digital devices are indispensable in the construction of personal and collective memory.

Screen scans are focused by paying special attention to the so-called treasures of the National Library (Chorographic Commission Plates, Independence Days, etc.).
