Nataly Maier’s Elective Tonalities arise from a silent dialogue with Goethe’s Elective Affinities. Just as in the novel—where souls are drawn to one another according to mysterious natural laws—the colours chosen by the artist approach, repel, and harmonise in relationships that are pure and essential.
The technique of egg tempera—an ancient, nearly forgotten medium—is revived with contemporary precision: exquisitely thin, luminous layers that reveal the patience of the gesture and the depth of thought behind it.
