Dr Cristina Garusi, former 2025 President of SIM – the Italian Society for Microsurgery, in collaboration with Claudia Ponzi of Art Gallery Finestreria in Milan, and with the artists Roberto Casiraghi, Luisa Elia, Alessandro Fieschi, Paola Fonticoli, Ayako Nakamiya, Pietro Pasquali, Rossella Rapetti, Daniele Nitti Sotres, Mauro Valsecchi, and Tetsuro Shimizu, presented the exhibition Artistic Nuances and Microsurgery to the distinguished guests of the 31st SIM Congress in Milan, held at Villa Torretta Milano in Sesto San Giovanni.
The same exhibition will be presented at Art Gallery Finestreria from 16 to 23 December 2025.

“I envisioned a Congress with a different approach: we are living in an age that calls for a new synthesis, one that brings together technical-scientific thinking and an artistic-cultural perspective, in order to rediscover shared values through different viewpoints.
The microsurgeon is, in a way, an artist who makes the best possible use of the tissue donated by the patient to reconstruct the missing part. Like an artist, the microsurgeon must have patience, dedication, and determination in order to achieve the finished work — and no result will ever be the same as another.
We would therefore like to move everyone emotionally and show that there is a common thread connecting disciplines that may appear distant, but are in fact very close.”

“Invited by Dr Cristina Garusi, and together with some of my artists, I am pleased to present an original exhibition exploring the meeting point between art and science — a display in which abstraction, in all its forms, engages with microsurgery, creating a cultural bridge between research in both fields. Although the works on view are predominantly abstract, they also contain figurative suggestions, evoking fragments of the human body through shapes and colours that recall the delicacy and complexity of microsurgical intervention.
The exhibition reflects on how both worlds share the same pursuit of care, attention to detail, and transformation of matter. Just as the surgeon intervenes to reconstruct our body and restore its psychophysical balance, so too do artists care for matter and for the soul.
These works, first presented at Villa Torretta and now at Art Gallery Finestreria, retain the memory of a natural and organic world, and of its fluid, multicellular movement. In both fields, it is a question of restoring balance through wisdom and mastery.
Ultimately, we are all in search of a form of Beauty — an harmony between body and mind — just as the ancient Greeks taught us, in their pursuit of an ideal of perfection.”
