Fabula is a short autobiographical story by Luisa Elia, set in the Ticino district, where the artist’s first Milanese home was located, a nineteenth-century at its arrival, in the mid-eighties, from a microcosm of characters belonging to the popular culture, now disappeared in time. In that place full of stories the artist brings his world of artists and poets, friends with whom he creates valuable associations, as with the photographer Johnny (Giovanni) Ricci, to whom this exhibition is dedicated. Fabula is also the title of his personal life, which develops as a story, a sequence of works through the which the artist proposes a poetic and evocative path, in reference to two places identitaires of his life, Milan and Lecce. The works presented are part of his vast and coherent artistic production, started in the eighties and developed over time in cycles of works, which analyse in an unconventional way, with even unusual techniques and materials, space, emptiness and shadow.
Other sculptures complete the itinerary, combined with some shots taken of the artist by the photographer Johnny (Giovanni) Ricci who, together with Annalisa Guidetti, has documented Luisa Elia’s artistic research regularly over the years. These are images of absolute poetry that offer a further reading to the journey, through the sensitive and acute gaze of one of our greatest art photographers.
