Beginner oil painting course for adults and children

Location: Art Studio Finestreria, Via Ascanio Sforza 69, Milan

The cost includes: the workshop and all necessary materials.

An afternoon of art open to all ages, exploring the plant world through direct observation, drawing, and painting.
Two parallel paths — one for children and one for adults — taking place in the same space and at the same time, designed to stimulate observation, creative gesture, and the pleasure of taking time for oneself, in connection with nature.

Un’erbario in pittura

Since ancient times, herbariums have been able to unite science and poetry.
This workshop is an invitation to reinterpret your own “herbarium page” through painting, allowing an intimate and creative connection with nature to emerge.

– The workshop is open both to those who wish to participate with their children and to those who would like to join individually (adult or child).
– No painting experience is required.

Course Program:

• Introduction to the history of herbariums and a look at artistic examples

• Exercises to sharpen your gaze and deeply observe the botanical subject

• Basic Oil Painting Techniques and Use of Materials

• Creation of your own canvas with technical and creative guidance

All materials will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own brushes or paints if you wish.

🌼 For the little ones:
Would you like your children to spend some time drawing and painting flowers and plants?
They can do it with us!
During the workshop, the young participants will be guided in creating their artworks, with care and warmth.

Contact with colours and nature is a wonderful way to cultivate creativity!

🌼 How the workshop works:
– Guiding the eye to train observation and attention to the most curious details.
– Introduction to the use of colour and fun techniques (pencils, markers, brushes, frottage, sponges)
– Developing your own artwork in a joyful and friendly atmosphere!

🍃 For adults:
Would you like to take some time to learn how to paint in oil on canvas, combining it with your passion for plants? We can do it together!
During the course you will be guided in making your own pictorial canvas depicting a plant subject meaningful to you!

Everyone is asked to choose and bring a plant of their choice, we suggest physically bringing it to conduct painting from life, or alternatively some plants will be available in the gallery.
Since ancient Greece, herbaria were made to catalogue and understand different plant species.
Starting with early empirical and then scientific analysis, the concept of the herbarium has increasingly taken on an artistic and philosophical role.
Plant care is for many people also a time of caring for their emotional state, so the course aims to use an intimate part of one’s daily life to combine it with the art of painting and make a herbarium page that is meaningful to the person making it.

🍃 How does the workshop work?
– An introductory theoretical section on the history of herbariums, along with selected visual examples.
– Guiding the eye to train observation of the subject and understand how to begin painting.
– Introduction to the oil-painting technique to begin using the colours freely.
– Development of each participant’s canvas/herbarium.

🍃 You are welcome to bring a plant, as well as your own paints and brushes; otherwise, all necessary materials will be available for you in the gallery.

Instructor: Alessandra La Marca
An artist selected by Art Studio Finestreria, featured in the solo exhibition Immersione Aerosa (2023) and the group show Tuttigatti (2024). Her sensitivity to the plant world and her delicate approach to painting make her the ideal guide for this workshop.

Important Detail

The workshop takes place inside an art gallery, surrounded by paintings and delicate works.
For this reason, we ask the children to follow just one very simple rule: be very careful and do not touch the artworks on display.

In return, we promise two hours of fun, imagination, and painting!
We’ll be waiting for you with hands full of creativity!
